Blackhorse Special Edition: Wreath Laying at Arlington

February 2, 2018

Below is a note from LTC Guillermo Guillén.

Fellow Troopers,

My name is Guillermo Guillén, and for those who do not know me, I have picked up coordinating this year’s wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery from Evan Fitzgerald. I served with the 11th ACR from June 2001 to June 2006.

A contingent representative group of 11th ACR troopers will participate in recognizing our Regiment’s 117th Birthday by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at 11:15 am, Friday, February 2, 2018.

Please let me know if you’re interested in being a member of the group. I have participated in the past so I’m okay with standing to the side and orchestrating. Glenn Snodgrass has the wreath, and I have four pairs of white gloves.

Below are some instructions from Arlington National Cemetery:

  • Privately owned vehicles and commercial buses are not authorized to drive to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Parking is available at the Visitor’s Center paid parking lot. Please be aware that the parking lot reaches capacity early during peak tourism months from March through September.
  • To minimize delays that would prevent your group from making its scheduled time, we recommend that your travel plans include additional time for unexpected traffic congestion, unfamiliarity with area roadways, parking, and unloading.
  • On the day of your event, report to the Tomb Guard Quarters located at the Memorial Amphitheater, with a copy of this email at least 30 minutes prior to the time of the scheduled wreath ceremony. The Tomb Guard sentinels will address any questions you have concerning placing the wreath at this time.

Lastly, I would ask that you forward this ceremony’s information to other Troopers. If you have any questions, please contact me.

Very respectfully,

Guillermo Guillén
